The Kuwaiti Olympic committee became a member of:
- The international Olympic committee in 1964
- The Asian Olympic council (in Kuwait) in 1982
- The Arab federation for the sports games in 1974.

The Kuwaiti Olympic committee is a sports body, which is formed either from the present sports’ games federations or from those which will be formed in the future. Whether these games, administered by the federations, are registered in the Olympic program or not, these federations’ aims is to organize and coordinate the Kuwaiti sports activities among the different federations, and to promote the level of the games technically in the frame of the country’s general policy.

The Kuwaiti Olympic committee’s relation with the international Olympic committee was only a membership relation where in its significance is the same as all the other national Olympic committees in the world. However after years of establishment Kuwait occupied a place among the elite sports leaders in the world, and that is when the late Sheikh Fahed al Ahmad was granted the international Olympic committee’s membership. Sheikh Ahmad Fahed al Ahmad, who took office as the head of the Kuwaiti Olympic committee from year 1990 till The 12th of March 2001, currently occupies this post. At that time the general assembly held its meeting in the committee’s headquarter and recommended the head and the members of the committee to the coming session which will last till year 2004.

The members of the board of directors’ recommendation that was set upon the issuing of the state decree law came as to appoint Sheikh Ahmad Fahed al Ahmad al Jaber al Sabah as a Minister of Information.
The KOC occupies a high rank among the Olympic countries especially that it is hosting the Asian Olympic council headquarters, which was formed according to a Kuwaiti recommendation and was declared on the 5th of December 1982. The late Sheikh Fahed al Ahmad headed this council however Sheikh Ahmad Fahed al Ahmad currently heads it.
