In 1951 the general sports federation was established in order to supervise all the sports games in the country. On the 29th of September 1957 the football, basketball, volleyball, track and field and biking federation called for a constitutional meeting for the Kuwaiti Olympic committee. This was to set the latter for law which was published in volume 142 of the official newspaper issued in1957. Later on it was confirmed and ratified by the Prime Minister’s first deputy Sheikh Sabah al Ahmad al Jabber al Sabah who is currently the Minister of Foreign Affaires.

The law stipulated that the Board of Directors, which is elected by the representatives of the sports federation, administer this committee.
The committee’s first General Assembly meeting was held on the 1st of January 1958 during which the first Board of Directors was formed to achieve the aims and goals of the formed committee.
The establishment of the sports federations in Kuwait, which started in 1951, indicates the sports movement’s interaction with society and its progress towards broader and a more diverse level within a framework of fine organization and ingenuity in practice, which leaves the nation with high revenue.
The period starting from the early thirties till the end of the sixties is considered the period where the Kuwaiti citizen took his first step into the modern world. This period witnessed Kuwait’s launch towards modernization and its adaptation to a new way of living, as it opened up to the outside world and participated in the people’s journey towards a better life.

Moreover, if the establishment of the sports federation in 1957 was for sponsoring the different games, then the establishment of the first Kuwaiti Olympic committee on the 29th of September 1957, its declaration by the Ministry of Social Affaires and Labor on 15th of October 1959, and the re-declaration of its fundamental system according to the provisions of decree law number 42 for the year 1978 regarding the sports bodies, came as a need for a sports institution which controls the federations’ affairs and supervises their execution of the high sports’ principles.
The committee’s general assembly held its first meeting in January 1958 during which the Kuwaiti Olympic committee’s first Board of Directors was elected.
